Architecture Styles
Georgian The Georgian house is characterized by a formal arrangement of parts employing a symmetrical composition enriched with classical detail. The facade often is emphasized by a pedimented projecting pavillion with colossal pilasters or columns, and a Palladian or Venetian window. Sliding sash windows are common on houses of the eighteenth century. Each sash has several lights using a few as 6 or as many as 20 panes of glass on one sash.

Isaac Royall House, Circa 1732 Medford, Massachusetts
The Royall House and Slave Quarters were built in 1732-1739. The House is one of the finest 18th century buildings and remains one of New England's most ornate and decorated Georgian homes. The Slave Quarters is the only such structure in the Northern United States. The mansion was used during the early months of the Revolution by Generals Lee, Stark, and Sullivan, and was visited by George Washington. Both the buildings and grounds are a National Historic Landmark. Today the Royall House Association (RHA) owns and operates the Royall House and Slave Quarters as a museum and educational resource, with seasonal tours, a public program series.
